Amalgam (Silver) Fillings are extremely common in the United Kingdom. Although they are a safe and long lasting filling material, patients will sometimes have them replaced for cosmetic reasons or when they begin to show signs of wear and tear.
At Phillips & Co Cosmetic Dentistry we are completely metal free for our filling materials, exclusively using a premium BPA free Dental Composite for our fillings. These are resin-based materials with similar looks and characteristics to teeth, and are commonly known as ‘white fillings’.
Here you can see a routine replacement of an amalgam filling with composite material. Note the difference between our filling on the left and the other existing white filling on the other tooth on the right. The difference in aesthetics and form is evident to see, and this is part of the reason we can take immense pride in our work.
The blue material you see in the photos is a latex-free rubber dam, used to keep the tooth dry and allow us to place the composite filling under the best conditions.
